BRIEF HISTORY: It was W. Bro. John James Jackson,
a Past Master of Shuniah Lodge No. 287 in Port Arthur,
Ontario who took the initiative to form Camosun Lodge.
He organized a meeting at 736 Fort Street in Victoria
on Friday, February 17th, 1911. A preference for the
Antient York Rite (now styled "Ancient"
or "American") was shown by those present.
It was agreed that the new lodge would be named 'Camosun.'
The first work was exemplified on August 7th, 1911
Dispensation was granted by M.W. Bro. F. J. Burd on
August 17th, 1911. The first regular communication
of Camosun Lodge, under dispensation, was held on
October 16, 1911, when ten petitions for initiation
were presented. The warrant of the lodge was issued
June 20th, 1912, by M. W. Bro. J. M. Rudd, Grand Master
of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M.
of British Columbia. On July 15, 1912, Camosun Lodge,
A.F. & A.M. No. 60 was consecrated and constituted
by M. W. Bro. Rudd and its first officers were installed.
Camosun Lodge boasts 32 founding (charter) members
ranging from Port Arthur Ontario, Chicago, Pennsylvania
and New Mexico to Glasgow, Scotland and Southport,
England.
ABOUT OUR LODGE: Camosun Lodge holds as a
fundamental principle that Freemasonry has always
been characterized by that order and system necessary
to cement lasting friendship among the brethren. Its
aims are to promote decorum and harmony in the lodge,
and the proper exemplification of the principles of
the Ancient Craft at all times
Camosun Lodge is one of seven lodges in District
No. 21. It meets in the beautifully adorned and recently
refurbished Masonic Temple at 650 Fisgard Street.
Our lodge roster ranges between 90 and 100 members,
Our members range in age from mid-20's on up and come
from a multitude of vocations, resulting in a diverse
and interesting band of brothers. They are active
throughout the Masonic community and many are members
of concordant bodies. Our members derive a great deal
of enjoyment through visitations to other lodges,
both near and far. We strive to make our meeting interesting
through varied programs and frequent education. Our
meetings are always followed by a warm and friendly
festive board to which all visitors are cordially
invited.
If you are interested in visiting Camosun Lodge,
